Fire station no. 2 next to Grunwaldzka Street is one of the oldest fire stations in Poznań. It was built in 1908 and it finished 100 years in 2008. At the beginning it was an independent fire station which protected the old Poznań-Grunwald district. The fire station was equipped with horse drawns, own garage, carpenter’s garage, forge and also dispatch center. In the horse drawn garge there were also horses which were fastened to the horse drawns and rushed to the fire. On a climbing tower next to the fire station exercises with hook ladders and later with mechanical ladders were done. Inspite of the trainings the climbing tower was also used to dry hoses after the fire alarm.

Times changed and fire stations changed also. Instead of horses they used fire engines now, new fire equipment and personal protective equipment. New garages and new climbing tower were built and also rooms’ arrangements inside of the fire station were changed. Nowadays the fire station next to Grunwaldzka Street is one of the busiest stations in the Poznań district with an annual number of 1600 accident alarms in year, with professionally trained firefighters and modern equipment.

Present operational area ist: the Grunwald district, Jeżyce district and 3 areas of Poznań district: Tarnowo Podgórne, Dopiewo and Buk. However, the Grunwald fire station helps other stations from Poznań and other areas.

On the protect area there are many factors, buildings and other places, especially with fire and technical threat. These are: King Cross shopping center, Clinic no. 2 and no. 3, Medical University, Handball Sports Centre “Arena”, “Hadex Gaz”, International Fair Traid, Glaxo Smith Kline, City Airport, Soccer Stadium and many others.>
